Abstract -
Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is a selfadministering complex wireless network. It consists of several mobile devices. A routing protocol facilitates the movement of packet from source to destination via some intermediate nodes. Every node works as a router in the network. Whenever a node will work as a router it will spend some amount of its energy. Due to the limited battery energy of mobile devices, the energy consumption during routing is a challenging issue. A number of energy efficiency metrics has been reviewed in this paper to reduce energy consumption when transmitting and receiving packets during communication. The aim is to improve the network lifetime by considering battery power a major issue. This paper examined the variants of energy efficient DSR routing protocols for their benefits, functionality, and limitations. Finally the paper is concluded with the future scope for research.
