QoS Analysis of Modified EEF and EEF Scheduling Algorithms in the WiMAX

Abstract -
High cost to setting up wired networks especially in rural and hilly areas has highly encouraged the expansion of wireless networks. The Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) IEEE 802.16 standard is among the most promising and rising technologies in wireless network. The salient features of this technology includes large frequency range, last mile wireless access and increased Quality of Service (QoS) support for various types of applications. There are several scheduling algorithm proposed. To improve the WiMAX quality of service, new scheduling algorithm is proposed called Modified Earliest Expiry First (MEEF) Algorithm. This algorithm works on the Remaining Valid Time (RVT) of the packet. The RVT is calculated from the TTE value calculated in the EEF algorithm and the priority of the packet. Thus, packets are scheduled based on RVT value. The algorithm is implemented in the MATLAB and results obtained for the node = 6 and node = 12. The results are analysed and the MEEF gives the better results than the EEF algorithm. The delay is reduced and the QoS improved.
