Abstract -
Internet now serves the most important functions in the modern world as a giant virtual storehouse of data, information and knowledge. The amount of electrically accessible information has been increasing dramatically over the last few decades. Although this large information pool offers human information analysts a great opportunity of discovering valuable information but when we want to automate the decision making process. This huge amount of information can create a cognitive overload for an automated system because the information obtained is not always relevant, and do not have all the same degree of credibility. Ontology based systems is a discipline in which the process of extracting knowledge from various repositories is done with the help of ontology. This paper presents a survey on ontology based systems for detecting diseases. By using different kinds of ontology- based systems, diseases can be diagnosed by retrieving signs or symptoms.
